Your Clear Path to a Better Smile
Like many people living around Chattanooga, you may want to straighten your smile but don't love the thought of sporting traditional metal braces.
With clear aligners from Invisalign and Team Popp Dental, teens and adults can get straighter smiles without anyone noticing the treatment!
Your Invisalign Experts
Clear aligners are a fantastic option to straighten your smile subtly! Treatment is more comfortable, teeth are easier to clean, and there are no eating restrictions or braces to break.
Aligners can straighten your teeth and give you a beautiful smile without the hassle or appearance of braces, but all Invisalign providers are not equal.
Dr. Tom Popp has spent years learning the Invisalign technique and knows how to make
it work. He was Chattanooga's first elite provider and has taught Invisalign to Vanderbilt orthodontic residents and spoke on Invisalign locally and nationally.
If you have been told that Invisalign will not work for you, it is time to get a free consult with Dr. Popp before you give up on improving your smile. At Team Popp Dental, you'll never pay more for Invisalign than braces!

Our Invisalign Process at Team Popp Dental
If you’re dreading the thought of long dental appointments and a mouth full of metal wires, Invisalign clear aligners from Team Popp Dental may be the right choice to straighten your teeth. We offer Invisalign for teens and adults at our offices in Chattanooga.
1. Come in for Your Smile Consultation
At your free consultation, Dr. Popp will assess the state of your teeth and listen to the results you want to determine if Invisalign is right for you. We'll also discuss your financial needs to ensure your treatment fits your budget.
2. Make a Plan
Our team will take digital images and X-rays of your teeth and use these to create your treatment plan. Dr. Popp will design your custom aligners that gradually shift your teeth into alignment.
Dr. Popp can use Invisalign to give you a stunning smile quicker than other treatments using a series of clear, custom-fit aligners. Come to our office on Hixson Pike or Gunbarrel Road for a free consultation—a simple and time-efficient first step toward your new smile.
3. Wear Your Almost-Invisible Braces
You'll wear your Invisalign aligners as much as possible, but you can easily remove them for eating, flossing, and brushing. Every four to six weeks, you'll visit our office to get your new sets of aligners and for Dr. Popp to check the progress of your teeth. These checkups are generally quick and painless because you won't have wires to check or tighten.

Ideal for Teens
Dr. Popp wants teens around Chattanooga to feel confident while straightening their smiles, and Invisalign clear aligners make that happen.
At Team Popp Dental, teens can participate in the activities they want while getting efficient orthodontic treatment for crowded teeth, uneven spacing, and bite issues.
And, since Invisalign aligners are made of clear plastic and almost invisible, their treatment is completely unnoticeable.
Invisalign helps teens focus on doing what they do best—being themselves. At your first free consultation with Dr. Popp, you'll find out if Invisalign can be a good fit for your teen's smile and lifestyle!
Differences Between Braces and Invisalign
When it comes to Invisalign treatment, there’s a lot to consider. Most Invisalign patients at Team Popp Dental enjoy shorter check-ups, fewer appointments, simpler oral hygiene, and fewer emergency visits.
Your cooperation is essential, whether you have braces or Invisalign. However, Invisalign has a bit more responsibility since the aligners are removable.
Since braces are attached to your teeth, they do the heavy lifting to keep your treatment progressing. With Invisalign, you need to do extra work, so your trays can be effective.
You'll need to manage your wear time, keep your aligners clean, and swap them out for the next aligner in the series. You need to be sure that you can do this before committing to Invisalign treatment.
Like traditional metal braces, Dr. Popp recommends wearing a retainer after your Invisalign treatment to maintain your new alignment and confident new smile.

Effective Treatment for Every Smile
The most common type of orthodontic treatment at Team Popp Dental is metal braces. These orthodontic staples have a solid history of straightening smiles at every age for patients around Chattanooga and the surrounding areas.
Chattanooga Braces
At Team Popp Dental, we’re proud to offer the latest braces technology to our patients of all ages at our two Chattanooga offices.
Traditional metal braces are durable and affordable, making them the top treatment for orthodontic patients in Chattanooga year after year.
Metal braces have had a reputation for being awkward and obvious. But, because of modern orthodontics, you’ll benefit from versions that are smaller, less conspicuous, and more comfortable than ever before.
Braces are great at fixing complex tooth issues. They can work faster at closing gaps and aligning teeth than other treatments. This speed can potentially shorten your treatment time with Dr. Tom Popp.

What Are Braces Made of?
Brackets
Dr. Popp uses durable brackets made from a mix of stainless steel, nickel, and other metals.
Brackets have little hooks or doors where a wire is threaded. Dr. Popp can secure a bracket by closing the door or placing an elastic over the top of the wire.
Wire
This thin piece of metal runs from one bracket to another. Dr. Popp will change the shape and curvature of the wire to move your teeth into straighter positions.
The wire will often attach all of your bottom or upper teeth. We might occasionally cut the wire if connecting just a few teeth is better for your treatment plan.
Orthodontic Bands
We cement these stainless steel rings to your teeth using dental bonding agents. These bands anchor your braces and orthodontic appliances, but we don’t always use them for everyone.
Elastic Ties/O-Rings/Ligatures/Colors
Dr. Popp uses these tiny rubber rings to attach the archwire to the brackets. Elastic is less rigid than spacers, and they come in dozens of colors.
Glue
Dr. Popp will use this to attach the brackets to your teeth. It's common to attach the bracket directly to the tooth with glue.
Elastics
This thin piece of metal runs from one bracket to another. Dr. Popp will change the shape and curvature of the wire to move your teeth into straighter positions.
The wire will often attach all of your bottom or upper teeth. We might occasionally cut the wire if connecting just a few teeth is better for your treatment plan.
Spacers
Dr. Popp uses these tiny elastic “donuts” or rings to create space between your teeth when needed, typically before we place your bands. People also refer to them as "separators".
Metal Braces FAQ
Your braces journey starts with Dr. Popp, and the team at Team Popp Dental will collect photos and X-rays of your mouth. Sometimes we'll use our iTero Element scanner to scan each of your teeth and the layout of your gums and mouth.
If necessary, this process takes 10–15 minutes and provides a highly accurate 3D view of your mouth.
After the X-Ray and optional scan, Dr. Popp will use this information to create your customized treatment plan, including how we need to move each tooth to get it in the best position.
Dr. Popp will use your information to decide how to place your brackets. For example, if you have some teeth that need to tilt, Dr. Popp places those brackets differently compared to the brackets for teeth that need to turn.
Once we attach your brackets, Dr. Popp will insert the wire. Bends in the wire will provide different types of pressure on different teeth and create precise movements.

Chattanooga Braces & Invisalign
Orthodontic treatment can make a difference at any age!
You can find the latest fixed and removable orthodontic appliances to choose from at Team Popp Dental, including:
- Invisalign
- Metal braces
Orthodontics for Children
Dr. Tom Popp and the American Association of Orthodontists recommend an orthodontic evaluation with a specialist at age seven.
By this age, the permanent teeth are erupting, and we can evaluate for crowding and overbite as well as any growth problems.
Intercepting some oral problems early can prevent the extraction of permanent teeth later, and an early orthodontic evaluation gives us a good starting point to monitor tooth eruption and jaw growth as your child ages.

Orthodontics for Teens
Many patients start treatment during their teenage years. Starting orthodontics around 6th grade often gives teens time to complete treatment before high school.
Experienced orthodontists like Dr. Popp easily recognize spacing, crowding, bite, and alignment issues in this age range.
Also, your teen’s bone and jaw structure are formed enough to allow orthodontic treatment to begin.
At Team Popp Dental, your teen can choose between Invisalign clear aligners or traditional metal braces. Each of these choices offers unique benefits while transforming your teen’s smile.
Orthodontics for Adults
We love adult patients! If you’ve put off treatment because you’re worried about the appearance of metal braces or have been told Invisalign won’t work for you, then now is the time to see Team Popp!
Dr. Popp knows Invisalign, and he can help you get the same results as a traditional treatment in most cases.
Treatment times are often only 12 to 18 months, and with accelerated treatment, we can reduce it even more.
Your smile makes a difference at every age. Get one you are proud to share!
